World Quality Day (WQD) is celebrated to promote the importance of quality to the sustainability of private and public sector entities and the prosperity of individuals.

This year, the National Certification Body of Jamaica executed its inaugural WQD Essay Competition for a number of reasons, chief of which are:

to bring national attention to the relevance of quality in Jamaica;

  • to connect with our stakeholders in the tertiary institutions in order to encourage academia to focus on the advantages of management systems certification;
  • to initiate the compilation of a body of quality knowledge which will become accessible to everyone, in particular, persons within the public and private sectors and academia;
  • to recognize and award participants who have conducted the necessary research in order to submit qualifying entries in the competition
  • to share the NCBJ’s thrust in promoting quality by connecting with quality professionals worldwide through our linkage with the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI).

Dr. Velton Gooden, winner in the Essay Competition and Head, Quality & Export, Caribbean Broilers Group ,receives 1st Prize for his winning entry in the WQD Essay Competition from Professor Winston Davidson C.D., J.P. Chairman, Standards Council Bureau of Standards Jamaica at the World Quality Day Breakfast and Inaugural Essay Awards Ceremony at the Knutsford Court Hotel on 8th November 2012.Dr Gooden’s submitted his entry presents in the category Professionals in the Private and Public Sector sponsored by JPS.
